Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to fostering shared prosperity, with an emphasis on economic transformation and empowerment.

Dr. Holness, who was making his contribution to the 2025/2026 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Thursday (March 20), said the focus of the Administration is to ensure that all Jamaicans, regardless of their socioeconomic situation and where they reside, have access to opportunities for upward mobility.

“Whether in rural communities, inner-city neighbourhoods or remote districts, we are working to ensure that no one is left behind and that absolute poverty is eradicated,” he stated.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the Government’s approach prioritises empowerment.

“We believe in empowerment, not dependency. That is why our policies are designed to equip Jamaicans with the tools, skills, and opportunities they need to lift themselves and their families out of poverty for good,” he declared.

Dr. Holness also highlighted the country’s economic resilience, noting that despite external challenges, progress continues.

“The fact that our economy remains on solid ground, despite the combined shocks of global inflation, the lingering effects of the pandemic, and the increasing threats of climate change, is testament to the progress we have made,” he said.

He further emphasised that the economy is not only progressing but undergoing a profound transformation, guided by strategic leadership and sound policies.

“This is not just economic progress; it is economic transformation. The transformation is the result of strong competent leadership, sound economic policies, and the deliberate choices made to protect the Jamaican people while safeguarding the stability of the economy,” he pointed out.

The 2025/26 Budget, with a focus on sustained economic growth and social mobility, is expected to reinforce initiatives that align with the vision for a more prosperous and inclusive future.
