The Factories Corporation of Jamaica (FCJ) plans to undertake capital expenditure and investment initiatives totalling $489.7 million in fiscal year 2026/27.
This is outlined in the 2026/27 Public Bodies Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure, which was tabled in the House of Representatives by Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Fayval Williams, recently.
To this end, the FCJ plans to acquire modular prototype buildings to create additional rentable space at the Garmex Free Zone in Kingston.
“This will, in turn, generate employment and provide support for private-sector growth and expansion. Development at Garmex will also include the continuation of
existing fire mitigation measures and the general rehabilitation of the facility at a total cost of $300 million,” the document outlined.
In addition, the FCJ will undertake major roof repairs at all properties damaged during Hurricane Melissa, at an estimated cost of $50 million, to ensure structural integrity, prevent further water damage, and maintain safe, functional spaces for tenants and staff.
For the new fiscal year, the FCJ also plans to construct gabion baskets at the White Marl Small Industrial Complex in St. Catherine, at an estimated cost of $20 million, to mitigate river erosion, reduce flood risk, protect infrastructure investments, and safeguard the surrounding environment.
The Corporation will also undertake rehabilitation works at fire damaged buildings to restore and make available additional rentable space, thereby increasing revenue generation.
“These works will also improve tenant satisfaction and enhance overall functionality of FCJ properties, with projected costs of $16 million for 2026/27,” the document stated.
The Factories Corporation of Jamaica (FCJ), incorporated under the Companies Act of Jamaica in 1987, is wholly owned by the Government of Jamaica.
Its mission is to be a financially strong and leading provider of industrial and commercial office space, offering customer focused services and efficient management through an empowered cadre of staff.
The FCJ currently owns or controls approximately 2,030,207 square feet of factory space and about 408 acres of land.
