Embassy of Jamaica Stages Protocol Training for Diaspora Leaders

More than 50 members of the Jamaican diaspora, representing various organisations, recently benefited from training aimed at strengthening the administration of their entities and sharpening their skills in protocol management.

The event was the first instalment of a series of protocol training sessions to be offered to the diaspora by the Embassy of Jamaica in Washington DC.

The training being extended includes all aspects of organisational and diplomatic protocols and covers the best practices for planning and executing events and the management of very important persons (VIPs).

Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the Jamaican Embassy in Washington, Lishann Salmon, said, “Leaders of diaspora organisations play a crucial role in fostering positive engagements within the Jamaican community through various events and, as such, the Embassy recognises the importance of supporting their efforts to ensure the successful execution of such engagements.”

She informed that the initial session covered an introduction to the basics of protocol, the importance of the protocol officer, the basics of event planning and forms of address.

Ms. Salmon said she was pleased at the turnout and the high level of participation of diaspora representatives, noting that the Embassy is grateful for the work of overseas nationals in promoting and enhancing Brand Jamaica.

The session was attended by Jamaica’s Consul General in Miami, Oliver Mair; Honorary Consul from Philadelphia, Christopher Chaplain; Honorary Consul from Atlanta, Dr. Elaine Bryan, and members of staff from the consulates in New York and Miami as well as representatives of the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council.
