The Full Story

The Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs takes its series of Road to Republic town halls to Kingston and St. Andrew on Thursday (July 25).

Residents are invited to come out in their numbers for the session, which will be held at Emancipation Park beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The event will facilitate discussion on constitutional reform.

Speaking with JIS News on Wednesday (July 24), Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Wayne O. Robertson, said that broadening and deepening stakeholder engagement is critical to the reform process.

“The Ministry has been working assiduously to augment awareness of the public on the recommendations of the Constitutional Reform Committee (CRC) and on the Constitution in general,” he said.

“We want to hear from you. What are your thoughts on the recommendations from the CRC? Do you agree and if not what new recommendations do you wish to proffer? We are fervent in our belief as a Ministry that the constitution of Jamaica must reflect the will of the people of Jamaica.” he said.

The islandwide town halls are part of the public education process for Jamaica’s constitutional reform, which involves transitioning from a Constitutional Monarchy to a Republic.
