The Full Story

Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, says he believes Prime Minister Bruce Golding's greatest achievement is the economic growth that Jamaica has achieved under his leadership despite the global economic challenges.

“There are several things that have been done and there are a lot of things that Bruce Golding would have wanted to come to fruition and if he has any disappointment it would be that he wasn’t able to do those. But he is very strong on the fact that they will be implemented despite him not being there,” Minister Vaz said while briefing journalists at a post cabinet press briefing yesterday at Jamaica House.

The Jamaican economy grew by 2.1 percent in the second quarter of the year above the Government’s projection of 1.5 percent which Prime Minister Golding said is evidence that that the process of economic recovery is continuing.

Minister Vaz noted that Mr Golding has made it clear that he is available for advice and assistance to the incoming Prime Minister, Andrew Holness and the Cabinet.

“He (PM Golding) is very amenable to continue to help both the party and the government in any capacity that we may see him playing a role,” Mr Vaz said.

Minister Vaz said though Mr Golding’s decision to resign was communicated in recent weeks, it was carefully thought of and he has done what he deems best for the country, the party and himself.
