The Honourable Olivia “Babsy” Grange, Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, has announced that Mrs. Donna-Marie Rowe has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS).
Mrs. Rowe, who was the candidate selected by the Services Commission from a number of persons who had applied for the CEO position, has been appointed on a three-year contract, effective 2nd January 2009.
Prior to her appointment, the former JIS Public Relations Manager acted as CEO following the departure of former CEO, Mr. Huntley Medley from the JIS.
Mrs. Rowe had also acted as CEO of JIS in 2006.
The new CEO describes herself as “a public relations specialist who has a strong desire to steer the communication strategies on behalf of the Government through its news and information agency, the JIS.”
She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies with a BA in English and a Masters in Communication Studies. In addition she has completed several short courses, mostly in the communications discipline.
Outside of the JIS, Mrs. Rowe has worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia, the Registrar General’s Department and the Jamaica Social Investment Fund.
