Bio
Giovanni Dennis is an award-winning journalist, with proven excellence in reporting, as well as television and radio broadcasting. A Chevening Scholar and British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) intern, he has become known for his insightful investigative reporting style. With close to 50 awards to his credit, the two-time winner of the prestigious Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) Journalist of the Year Award, has remained a fast-moving high achiever in media.
His professional journey began at NewsTalk 93FM in 2011 as Junior News Editor and Presenter. He joined the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) as Writer, Producer, Presenter in 2016 for a three-month stint. He later secured an internship at the BBC in the United Kingdom. At Television Jamaica (TVJ) and Radio Jamaica 94FM, Mr. Dennis rose to become a Senior Producer/Reporter and News Anchor, playing an integral role in researching and presenting widely known programmes including All Angles, Beyond the Headlines and That’s a Rap. He then moved on to undertake the post of Managing Editor of News and Current Affairs and Senior Content Manager at CVM Television Jamaica Limited in 2025.
In June 2026, and with over 15 years of experience in delivering top-tier media content across broadcast and digital platforms, the decorated journalist seized the opportunity for a full-circle movement when he returned to JIS as Chief Executive Officer.
The Garvey Maceo past student attended The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication from the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC). At university, he held student leadership positions on his hall of residence, the CARIMAC Student Society, as peer advisor at UWI Placement and Career Services as well as serving on the Guild of Students. He was awarded the prestigious Chevening scholarship to study at the City St. George’s, University of London where he completed a Master of Arts in Broadcast Journalism.
His achievements have earned him international recognition, including selection as an Edward R. Murrow Fellow through the US International Visitor Leadership Program, a United Nations RAF Fellow (2025) and a Climate Justice Journalism Fellow with Climate Tracker Caribbean (2025).
He is a 2018 recipient of the Prime Minister’s Youth Award for Journalism.
Mr Dennis is an avid sports enthusiast, taking keen interest in football as an Arsenal, Barcelona and Lionel Messi fan. He considers himself an excellent domino player. He is also a proud father of three.
