The Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) is offering a wide ranging skills training programme, targeting young people, during this year’s staging of its annual summer camp which runs from July 11 to 29.

The engagements include: first aid; logistics; fire awareness; seamanship; and activities focusing on renewable energy systems.

The three-week camp, which is organized by the School of Advanced Skills (SAS), will utilize an ‘edu-fun’ concept.

This entails interactive engagements, tailored to making participants more receptive of the programme.

The camp will be held at the CMI’s main campus at Palisadoes Park, which is adjacent to the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, and is open to youngsters, aged 14 to 20.

Director of the SAS, Osric Forrest, told JIS News, that participants are expected to benefit significantly from the camp, which is structured to enhance learning.

He said it will also include eco-tours and hiking to enable participants to learn about environmental challenges and identify solutions, as well as a beach clean-up exercise.

The camp will also feature a cultural awakening component to provide the youngsters with an opportunity to express their artistic creativity through dance, music and drama.

They will showcase their talents in a concert to be staged at the end of the programme.
