CARICOM Directors of Information Forum to Explore Strengthening of Regional GISs

Technical Co-ordinator of the CARICOM Secretariat’s Technical Action Services Unit, Yvonne Holder says the Forum, which will take place at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica on March 16 and 17, will also create an opportunity for “designing more effective sustainable public awareness strategies to support national implementation of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME)”.

Some 16 Directors of Information as well as a five-member team from the Guyana based CARICOM Secretariat are expected to attend the two-day regional forum, which will be hosted by the Secretariat in association with the Jamaica Information Service (JIS).

Jamaica’s Minister of Information, Senator Burchell Whiteman will be the Guest Speaker for the event, and will also host a welcome reception for the participants on March 15.

There will be a special ‘Think Tank’ presentation on the ‘Free Movement of Persons: A Vision for the Caribbean’, by Assistant Secretary-General, Human and Social Development, CARICOM Secretariat, Dr. Edward Greene.

This will be followed by a 30-minute ‘Think Tank’ discussion.
