    Optimists from all over the Caribbean will gather in Ocho Rios from Friday, September 5 to Sunday September 7, 2008, for the Annual Convention of The Caribbean District of Optimist International. Friday will see the Lieutenant Governors for the 2008-2009 Administrative Year being taken through the paces in training seminars which will equip them for their year in office. The Optimists will then let their hair down between 7 and 10.00 p.m. when they get together at the Oceans 11 for the Governor’s reception.
    On Saturday, the Opening Session and Flag Raising Ceremony will start and to be immediately followed by the Business session which will be addressed by Past International Vice President Dr. Ron Bourne. There will also be Workshops, Executive Committee and Board of Directors Meetings.
    The highpoint of the activities for Saturday will be the Installation Banquet for the Governor for the 2008-09 Administrative Year Judith Reid, and her Lieutenant Governors.
    The Optimists will then reconvene on Sunday with a Memorial Service and then the Closing General Session.
    Optimist International is a service organisation with more than 3,000 clubs and over 100,000 members serving in 37 countries. It is community-based and focuses on youth, providing assistance worth 78-million United States dollars to six million young people annually through community service projects.
