Canada’s Prime Minister to Visit Jamaica- April 19-20

Canada’s Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, is to pay an official visit to Jamaica from April 19- 20.
Prime Minister Harper will travel to Jamaica immediately after the Summit of the Americas, scheduled for April 17-19 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.
During his visit here, Prime Minister Harper will address a special joint sitting of Parliament on Monday April 20th. He will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Bruce Golding on a range of issues including the global economic crisis, the impending negotiations toward a free trade agreement between Caricom and Canada, and Canada’s assistance in the implementation of the Justice Reform Programme. Canada continues to be one of Jamaica’s primary sources of bilateral aid.
Prime Minister Harper will also pay courtesy calls on the Governor-General and the Leader of the Opposition. He will conduct a tour of the Jamaica Military Air School for which the Canadian government has provided valuable assistance and will meet with Jamaican/Canadian business leaders at a working luncheon.
