Cabinet Approves Contracts for Capital Works

Cabinet has approved several contracts, amounting to over $1billion, for construction works at the Twickenham Park Housing Development in St. Catherine, the Tamarind Farm Adult Correctional Centre in St. Catherine, as well as the Caribbean Maritime Institute, the Norman Manley International Airport, and Queen’s Warehouse in Kingston.
Minister of Transport and Works, and Chairman of Cabinet’s Infrastructure Committee, Michael Henry, told journalists at Wednesday’s (August 20) post-Cabinet briefing at Jamaica House, that a contract in the sum of $1,082,512.40 has been awarded to the engineering firm, M & M Jamaica Limited, to effect works on Phase II of the Twickenham Park Housing Development.
Mr. Henry advised that a contract, in the additional amount of $10 million, has also been awarded to APEC Consultant Limited, for the design, costing, and supervision of upgrading works, on the transformation and transportation facilities at the Tamarind Farm Adult Correctional Centre. The overall cost, he informed, is $20 million, plus reimbursable expenses, not exceeding $660,000.
Work at the Queen’s Warehouse will see Alfrasure Structures Limited, undertaking renovation of the facility, in a contract arrangement with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, and the Customs Department, Mr. Henry said. Additionally, he advised that Nubian-1 Construction Limited, has been awarded a contract, valued $32.8 million, to erect a 450 metre reinforced concrete structure, to house a bus simulator at the Caribbean Maritime Institute.
Cabinet has also granted approval for the Airports Authority of Jamaica, to vary the existing contract with IMCA Jamaica Limited (formerly Power and Tractors Limited) by a sum of US$153,118, to incorporate a 2MVA transformer; one 10,000 gallon bulk fuel storage tank; and relocate an existing standby generator.
