Cabinet has approved the award of contracts, valued at just over $1billion, to five book stores for the supply and distribution of secondary textbooks, and primary work and textbooks to institutions across the island.
Minister of Transport and Works, and Chairman of Cabinet’s Infrastructure Committee, Michael Henry, told journalists at Wednesday’s (August 20) post-Cabinet briefing at Jamaica House, that five contracts in the sum of $647.7 million have been awarded to five stores, to distribute the secondary textbooks.
These are: Sangster’s Book Stores – $46.4 million; Carlong Publishers (Caribbean) Limited – $198.9 million; Kingston Bookshop Limited – $276 million; Book Wizard Limited – $111.6 million; and Bryans Bookstore – $15.3 million.
Mr. Henry also advised that Cabinet also approved a contract in the sum of $510.7 million awarded to Carlong Publishers to supply and distribute work and textbooks to 815 primary schools across the island.
On another matter, Mr. Henry said a contract, in the sum of US$340,000, has been approved and awarded to Market Research Services Limited, to undertake the recertification of the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).
