The Black River Hospital in St. Elizabeth has received a donation of disposable peel-away sheets from the Parottee Enrichment Project Inc., valued at US$85,000.
A United States-based non-profit organisation that was registered in 2020, the Project focuses on enhancing the community of Parottee and its environs in St. Elizabeth.
The organisation donated more than 3,000 packets of the item, which range from packs of three to packs of seven sheets.
During the handover ceremony, held at the hospital on August 13, Chief Executive Officer at the facility, Diana Brown Miller, in thanking the organisation said the investment was a significant one.
“Peel away sheets are disposable and so in times of hurricanes or any disaster we have, they are very handy. You just put them on and tear them off and you have a new one to put on, they are fresh and ready to go,” she said.
She added that sheets donated last year by the Project were utilised by the hospital during the recent passage of Hurricane Beryl.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisation donated much needed hospital beds to the facility, and last year it donated medical equipment and supplies valued at some US$6,000.
Senior Medical Officer at the hospital, Dr. Sheriff Imoru, also thanked the organisation for the items.
For his part, President of the organisation, Albert Daley, said they are delighted to hand over the items to the hospital for a third time.
“It is with tremendous joy that we donate the items to the Black River Hospital, and we hope they are used where needed most,” he said.
Mr. Daley also thanked the donors for their contributions and the part they played in ensuring that the items were handed over.
The Project also gave out some 300 food packages to families in the Parottee community, which was ravaged by the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 3.
It also hosted a graduation ceremony for students from schools in the area that did not have ceremonies due to the hurricane.
The students also received chrome book laptops from the organisation, and scholarships that cover the upcoming academic year.
