The inaugural staging of the Best of Jamaica Food Festival will take place over the Heroes weekend on Sunday, October 16, at the Kaiser Sports Club in Discovery Bay, St. Ann.
This festival has been described as a one-of-a-kind event in the Caribbean that seeks to combine many of the island’s other major food festivals under one umbrella, and will feature the best of yam, bussu, chicken, Portland jerk, curry, banana and many others.
“People love food and are enchanted by the attractive displays and expertise which the chefs bring to these events, and those attending will get a chance to pick up recipes and tips from the demonstrations,” explained Festival Director, Headley Frater.
The festival will also showcase many of the country’s favourite foods from the leading purveyors and distributors of meats, spices, juices, ice-cream, coffee, health foods, baked products, ground produce, cheese and wines.
The Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) fully endorses the festival and recognizes it as a platform to showcase the variety of Jamaican food and culture in a setting that will attract both local and foreign visitors.
Director of TPDCo, Denzil Wilks said the endorsement “encourages and provides an incentive to festival organizers to get involved in diversifying the offerings of the tourism product”.
The Best of Jamaica Food Festival is an event for the entire family, and part proceeds will be donated to the Kiwanis, Optimist, Rotary and Junior Chamber service clubs in St. Ann as well as the St. Ann Police Department.
