Sunday, August 1 was declared ‘Jamaica Day’ in the United States capital, by the Mayor of Washington, D.C., Adrian Fenty.
Mayor Fenty read the proclamation at a Thanksgiving Service to commemorate Jamaica’s 176th year of Emancipation as well the country’s 48th year of Independence, at Dumbarton Chapel, Howard University, in Washington, D.C., on August 1.
