The Full Story

Corporate Area residents can access information on proposed development projects within their communities through the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation’s (KSAMC’s) building application query portal.

The disclosure was made by Mayor of Kingston, Senator Councillor Delroy Williams, during the KSAMC’s monthly meeting on December 13 at the entity’s downtown Kingston headquarters.

Mr. Williams said that the initiative is part of the programme of modernisation of the Corporation.

“We have implemented an online query system for the approval of plans. In a nutshell, the system allows our residents to search and find developments taking place across the city while they are in the processing state,” he noted.

Persons can access the address, proposed development, and status of application.

Explaining that the online system is updated with new applications for development projects, Mayor Williams said it empowers residents within the respective communities with information at an early stage.

He said with the introduction of the system, persons will be able to find out the planned development in their communities and lodge their concerns or objections.

“We have put the information out there, so that they can query and find out what developments are taking place, so if you want to query a street, you can type in a street name and you will see all the developments that are in the system that are on that street,” he outlined.

Mayor Williams said that all complaints submitted to the KSAMC must be taken into consideration during the approval stage.

“We have to give the residents the opportunity to raise concerns and objections during the process,” he said, noting that all objections must be taken to the building committee for deliberation.

Mayor Williams said the initiative is one of several intended to streamline and improve the service delivery of the Corporation.

“In our efforts to serve our residents and improve on the delivery of service to the residents of the municipality, the KSAMC has been working slowly and quietly to bring about changes to accommodate and transition into a more digital and efficient organisation,” he added.
