New Olympic Gardens Police Station To Open By End Of June

Minister of National Security, the Hon. Dr. Horace Chang says the newly constructed Olympic Gardens Police Station in St. Andrew, which is expected to be opened by the end of June, will significantly improve policing activities in the area.
“It will provide good quality facilities for the police officers and is more user friendly. It is a big thing for the community of Olympic Gardens, as well as the communities around it,” Dr. Chang said.
He was speaking to journalists following a tour of the police station on May 15.
The facility, which replaces the older smaller police station located at Olympic Way, was built in collaboration with the National Housing Trust (NHT) which provided funding in the amount of $157 million, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson said the initiative is part of the JCF’s strategic transformation programme.
“This is symbolic of where we need to go as a police force and as an organization that offers service to the communities around,” he said.
Amenities at the new station include a criminal investigations branch office, community safety office, a homework centre/internet café for community members, traffic unit, cell block, kitchen, dining and bathroom facilities.
