July 3, 2007

The Full Story

A team comprising representatives of the Public Sector Monitoring Committee and the Ministry of Finance and Planning will be appointed to carry out a study of the actuarial report, which formed the basis of the award of the public sector health scheme to Life of Jamaica (LoJ).
“A decision has been arrived at to have a team .carry out a study of the actuarial report, which was submitted to the Ministry of Finance and which formed the basis of that Ministry’s recommendation to the National Contracts Commission (NCC),” Information and Development, Donald Buchanan said at yesterday’s (July 2), weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.
He noted that the team will also be required to make a further recommendation to the NCC. “So for the time being, the matter of the award of the Government’s Employees Administrative Services Only (GEASO) contract will remain on hold,” he informed journalists.
Unions representing public sector workers have criticized the government’s recent recommendation to award the management of the public sector health scheme to LoJ as opposed to the current provider, Blue Cross of Jamaica.
