Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Hon. Dr. Keith Rowley, says his visit to Jamaica has been successful in rekindling the good relations between the countries.

The Prime Minister said while challenges exist, “they are not difficult to solve and all that is needed is a coming together and finding of ways to deal with them”.

He noted that there are “benefits to be had by us agreeing that we are stronger together”.

Dr. Rowley was addressing a luncheon hosted by the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) and the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in St. Andrew on July 19.

The Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister said that his country and Jamaica have a responsibility to accept their leadership role in CARICOM and lead by example.

He noted that he and Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness agree that the regional institution can only be strengthened if the relationship between the countries is at its best.

Dr. Rowley, who is on an official visit from July 17-21, pointed to the need for the region to increase the focus on security “given what is happening in the international environment”.
