Some 87 District Constables are being trained for deployment to resort areas.

“These officers will function under a special arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), have policing powers and will focus specifically on boosting safety and security in resort areas,” said Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett.

He was making his contribution to the 2016/17 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 14.

He informed that another 13 officers will be added to bring the complement to 100 by the end of the year.

Mr. Bartlett said the Ministry is fine-tuning details with the Ministry of National Security, the JCF and other stakeholders.

In addition, a multisectoral task force has been created to develop strategies to effectively address the issue of visitor harassment.

The strategies will include legislative, law enforcement, and social intervention measures.
