The Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) will be hosting a town hall meeting on Thursday (June 16), which will focus on the Zika Virus (ZIKV), hurricane preparedness, and other issues affecting the municipality.

The session will be held at the Sts. Peter and Paul Church Hall on Old Hope Road, St. Andrew.

Representatives from key agencies will be on hand to provide information and respond to concerns. Among the entities are the Kingston and St. Andrew Public Health Department, Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), and the Jamaica Fire Brigade.

Speaking at the KSAC’s monthly meeting held in Downtown, Kingston on June 14, Mayor of Kingston, Senator Dr. Angela Brown Burke, said the meeting will focus on raising public awareness about ZIKV and the need for citizens to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their surroundings in order to combat the virus.

She said it will also highlight the KSAC’s preparedness activities for the 2016 hurricane season.

She informed that the Corporation will be undertaking inspection, repair and restocking of 13 priority shelters, and the cleaning of drains in Seaview, New Haven, Duhaney Park, Central and Downtown, Kingston.
