Young People to be trained as Community Empowerment Aides

The National Centre for Youth Development (NCYD) will be training a cadre of young people to serve as Community Youth Empowerment Aides (CYEAs) in key parishes across the island.

Minister of Youth and Culture, Hon. Lisa Hanna, made the disclosure during her contribution to the 2012/13 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Wednesday (July 3), under the theme: ‘On a Mission to make Jamaica great’.

The training will be conducted by the National Youth Service (NYS) and the Ministry’s Youth Division in the areas of business administration, life skills, youth development, youth advocacy, and leadership.

Training and placement of the CYEAs will begin in August this year and they will initially be deployed in the parishes of Manchester, St. Ann, Portland, Kingston and Clarendon.

According to the Minister, the training of CYEAs will enable the expansion of the youth development field force and ensure the transmittal of key principles to young people throughout the country.
