WPM Waste Management Limited will be intensifying operations to remove waste from communities across St. James, including the mini dump sites for hurricane debris.
“In the coming days, you will see an increase in the operations whereby additional tipper trucks [and backhoes] have been engaged to be deployed to clean all the dump sites,” said WPM Regional Operations Manager, Dramaine Jones.
“What we realise is that a lot of storm waste, as well as residential waste, is coming out, so those will be cleaned,” he said, noting that night shifts have also been activated.
He was addressing the recent monthly meeting of the St. James Municipal Corporation in Montego Bay.
Mr. Jones noted that the agency’s work was hampered by damage to six units, including a crane truck, that were parked at the Catherine Hall Stadium for safety during the hurricane.
“We are still in the process of seeing how best we can get them operational. We have, so far, recovered two units. They are working, but we still have to be constantly checking to ensure that there is no permanent damage,” he informed.
Mr. Jones appealed for understanding as the WPM intensifies its clean-up efforts.
“We are out there. The teams are working,” he said.
