As Jamaica’s competitors prepare to showcase their talents at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, delegates are engaged in high-level strategic meetings aimed at strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) capacity and advancing training in new and emerging skills.
On Sunday (September 20), Official Delegate and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WorldSkills Jamaica and Managing Director, HEART/NSTA Trust, Dr. Taneisha Ingleton, visited Jinhua Technician College in Zhejiang Province, China.
The College is recognised as one of the first National High-Skilled Personnel Training Bases, a National Integration base of industry and education, a National Model Vocational Skills Appraisal Station and a Zhejiang Province First-Class Technician College Construction Unit.
Dr. Ingleton was joined by Technical Delegate, Dwayne Bent, and Technical Delegate Assistant, Stacy-Ann Cain-Davis.
The Jamaican delegates engaged the College’s President, Liu Yunbin, on matters concerning integration of industry and education, exchanges in skills development in areas such as Computer Numerical Control (CNC), Mold Technology, Air Conditioning Technology, Additive Manufacturing and Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Maintenance.
Dr. Ingleton told JIS News that the engagement with Jinhua Technician College gave the team insights on how to further develop the capacity of Jamaica’s instructors.
She said it presented them with a broader base for benchmarking, utilisation of evidence-based performance management as well as standards development and alignment across Jamaica’s most critical growth industries, which are manufacturing, construction and logistics.
“The possibility for virtual learning is not only attractive, as it presents the opportunity for scale but also will accelerate TVET leadership development and support more impactful pathways for accessing quality TVET systems,” Dr. Ingleton explained.
For his part, Mr. Bent said a partnership engagement with the College will put WorldSkills Jamaica and the HEART/NSTA Trust in a position to fully develop its programme capacity in new and emerging areas, such as Additive Manufacturing, Industrial Automation and Intelligent Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, to support key sectors for development.
“This opportunity will add value to the brand and the marketability of our graduates,” Mr. Bent said.
