The World Federation of Consuls will on Thursday (Dec. 2) confer its highest honour, the FICAC-STAR in GOLD Award on Prime Minister the Most Hon. P.J. Patterson at a function to be held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel. Mr. Patterson will also receive the Lignum Vitae Award, which is the highest award of the Consular Corps of Jamaica.
Mr. Patterson will be presented with the awards in recognition of the excellent work done during his tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (1978-1980) and for his continued outstanding leadership of Jamaica and representation of Caribbean causes in the international arena.
Prime Minister Patterson is also being recognised for his continuous support of the advancement of the World Federation of Honorary Consuls and the Consular Corps of Jamaica, his outstanding leadership performance internationally as well as for his commitment to the progress of the peoples of the world, the Caribbean and Jamaica in particular.
The Consular Corps of Jamaica consists of Honorary Consuls who represent countries with no embassies or non-resident Ambassadors assigned to Jamaica. The Honorary Consuls undertake diplomatic functions including the development of trade and bilateral agreements between Jamaica and the countries they represent.
