The Full Story
Plans are far advanced for the development of a Workforce College in the community of Seaview Gardens, in Western St. Andrew.
This was disclosed by Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Anthony Hylton, during his contribution to the State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives, on September 8.
Mr. Hylton, who is also Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, said the development of the college will be done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Heart Trust/NTA.
“The college will provide skills training in critical areas that respond to the new and emerging labour market needs of the logistics centred economy. In this endeavour, we have sought to engage strategic partners, such as the Caribbean Maritime Institute,” the Minister noted.
Training at the college will include trailer driving, inventory and supply chain management and other logistics related functions.
“We believe that a college of this nature is critical in preparing the people of Western St Andrew and indeed Jamaica, for this new paradigm in our country’s development,” the Member of Parliament said.
Mr. Hylton expressed thanks to the Minister of Education, Hon. Rev. Ronald Thwaites, for seeing the strategic importance of Seaview Gardens as a location for this workforce training college.
He pointed out that the plan to establish the training college in the community has already generated tremendous excitement among community members.
