The Full Story

Work is being done to address anomalies related to the implementation of the new public-sector compensation structure, says Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke.

Opening the 2024/25 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives, today (March 12), Dr. Clarke said some cases have to do with inherent issues in the classification structure of the public sector.

“For example, genuine anomalies were created that affected classification groups. We have a panel of classification experts currently reviewing these anomalies. Their work will be completed by the end of this month and corrective actions are to be implemented before the end of the first quarter in the new fiscal year,” he said.

Dr. Clarke noted that another pain point is the appointment of officers acting in a higher post, where on appointment that officer received less pay because they were appointed at the first point of the salary band.

“The Office of the Services Commissions, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, is currently addressing this matter and I expect that by the end of April, this too will be corrected for the affected persons,” he advised.
