Work on the establishment of a Jamaica Water Resources Development Master Plan is to get underway this month.

The Government of Jamaica has allocated $18.4 million towards the project in the 2016/17 Estimates of Expenditure now before the House of Representatives.

The project seeks to provide assistance to the Water Resources Authority (WRA) to update the Jamaica Water Resources Development Master Plan (WRDMP) for Jamaica.

Anticipated targets for the fiscal year include: updating and verifying the water resources inventory for 2015 to 2030 at five-year intervals and up to 2050 at 10 year intervals; revising the water allocation policy and strategy to meet demand; establish an online database of the Water Resources Master Plan data; and submit the final WRDMP Report to the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation.

The project is funded by the Government of Jamaica and the Inter-American Development Bank. It is scheduled for completion in July 2017.
