The Full Story

Work is far advanced on the new Stony Hill Police Station in St. Andrew West Rural, Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Juliet Cuthbert Flynn, has informed.

Making her contribution to the State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (October 24), Mrs. Cuthbert Flynn, who is also Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, said the project is indicative of the priority the Government places on the welfare of members of the security forces.

“That dilapidated building that I saw… will be replaced with a brand new two-storey building,” she said.

The State Minister further informed that a Restorative Justice Centre will be built beside the new station.

“We will see a new police station and a brand new restorative justice centre right in Stony Hill square,” Mrs. Cuthbert Flynn indicated.
Ground was broken last March by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, for the station’s construction.

It is being developed under Project Rebuild, Overhaul and Construct (ROC) in collaboration with the National Housing Trust (NHT), which will provide financing and management under its Special Projects Unit.

The scope of works involve demolition of the wooden parts of the existing building, reconstruction of the upper floor, construction of a new sewage disposal system, paving of the driveway and parking area, erection of the boundary wall and supply and installation of domestic appliances.

The building will also house the station’s facilities, including living quarters for officers and a holding area. Disabled persons will also have adequate access to the building.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Cuthbert Flynn indicated that the Squares in her constituency, particularly those in Stony Hill, Golden Spring, Tavern and Lawrence Tavern are to be reorganised and reconstructed.

“This, to ensure the beauty of the areas is enhanced and that the motoring and pedestrian public can have a far more enjoyable experience in these spaces,” she said.

“I’ve started the process with much positive response in Stony Hill with the relevant stakeholders and aim to have all the major areas aligned to bring about the best results for all concerned. We cannot afford for the Squares to [remain] in [a] ‘chakka chakka’ appearance; we want it to be better for the people,” Mrs. Cuthbert Flynn added.
