National Security Minister, Hon. Robert Montague, says the Government will be relentless in pursuing perpetrators of crime and violence.
“We will not shirk in this war against those who would challenge the authority of the State and bring untold terror to the people,” he said.
Minister Montague was making his contribution to the 2016/17 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on July 6.
He reiterated the five-pillar strategic plan to tackle crime, which comprises swifter and surer justice, social development, situation prevention, effective policing and rehabilitation and redemption.
Among the elements of the plan are reform of the justice system; addressing the root causes of crime, such as inadequate family income; strengthening community policing, and reducing recidivism through rehabilitation programmes.
Minister Montague noted that the Ministry and its agencies “will create a safer Jamaica”.
“Be assured…we are going to be different, focused and bold in tackling this monster…we can secure a safer environment for all our citizens and residents as well as the three million visitors to our shores every day,” he said.
