The Full Story

Jamaican High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), Burchell Whiteman, has expressed sincere regret at the death of Colonel Ken Barnes, who served as Jamaica’s first Defence Advisor to the UK in the late 1970s.
He said Colonel Barnes gave impeccable service and was an outstanding ambassador for Jamaica during his tenure as Defence Advisor.
“On behalf of the staff of the Jamaican High Commission, and the entire UK Jamaican community, I would like to extend deepest sympathies to Colonel Barnes’ widow, Jean and children Gillian, Tracey and John Barnes,” High Commissioner Whiteman said.
Colonel Barnes, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, came to Jamaica as a member of the West India Regiment, but became a Jamaican citizen and a member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), at its formation at Independence in 1962. He died on February 19, following a long illness.
