The Full Story

The Westmoreland Health Department will be targeting 100 persons for coronavirus (COVID 19) testing at the Savanna-la-Mar Health Centre today, April 30.

Health Promotion and Education Officer for Westmoreland, Gerald Miller, in an interview with JIS News, said testing will commence at 9:00 a.m. and culminate at 3:00 p.m.

He pointed out that the initiative is part of efforts to boost testing in the parish, to help reduce the spread of the virus.

There are no screening criteria to receive a test.

“We want to provide the opportunity for persons within the parish to come and access the service because, from time to time, we have persons come in to the facility wanting to do their COVID-19 testing. We are trying to ramp up the testing now to give people this opportunity,” he said.

Mr. Miller is urging residents to take advantage of the COVID-19 testing, but advised that the test is not for the purpose of overseas travel.

Meanwhile, Mr. Miller is encouraging residents to remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19, even as the number of positive cases continue to trend down in the parish.

“We want persons to continue to pay attention to the protocols. Wear your masks, constantly sanitise your hands and maintain social distancing. If we do that, then we can continue to have our numbers going down,” he said.

“We see that more people are a little bit more responsible and they know how to conduct themselves. There is still room for improvement, but I see persons adhering to the protocols as best as possible and this is encouraging, but we can’t be complacent,” Mr. Miller continued.
