A new 15 million gallon water treatment plant is to be built at Content, Rio Cobre, in St. Catherine, following Cabinet’s approval.

This was disclosed by Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, at a post-Cabinet press briefing, held at  the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), in Kingston, on March 22.

The Minister said construction of the plant represents one of the first initiatives under the Government’s 10-point plan, which is geared towards facilitating growth and development.

“We expect within 18 months, once this project has started, that we should see a significant improvement to the ongoing problems for the greater Kingston Metropolitan Area during times of drought,” he said.

Other aspects of the Government’s growth plan include reform of the tax system, digitization of all government records, giving a stimulus to the economy and boosting aggregate demand.
