The Full Story

KINGSTON — Cabinet has approved a US$6,343,220 contract to Kier Construction Limited for the construction of a wastewater pumping facility at Darling Street, Kingston.

Speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunication and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz, informed that the project forms part of the Kingston Water and Sanitation Project, being undertaken by the National Water Commission (NWC).

“With the impending redevelopment of the downtown Kingston area, the National Water Commission is taking the initiative to provide for sewage generated in the service area to be transported via an existing pipeline to the wastewater treatment plant at Soapberry, (St. Catherine)” he said.

He added that the facility to be built will be capable of handling flows up to year 2030.

The contract was awarded on the recommendation of the National Contracts Commission and the Infrastructure Sub-committee.
