Vale Royal Talks – July 22
July 22, 2008The Full Story
The Government and Opposition will meet for the third round of talks at Vale Royal tomorrow (July 22), following meetings in January and June of this year.
At the last meeting, the issue of crime, particularly as it relates to the witness protection programme, was the main focus of talks between the Government and the Opposition.
The Opposition gave its full commitment to support measures necessary to strengthen the police force and has agreed to engage in a process of ongoing discussions with the Government in order to assist in the provision of recommendations and monitoring of the process by which implementation takes place.
The concept of the Vale Royal talks was introduced in 2002 in order to achieve consensus on issues of national concern, between the Government and the Opposition.
