Hocking College in the United States has established four scholarships in honour of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller. The announcement was made by Dr. John Light, President of Hocking College, who paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at Jamaica House on Wednesday (Nov. 15).
Mrs. Simpson Miller expressed gratitude for the scholarships and said she looked forward to the contribution that those who will receive them would make to nation building, upon their return to Jamaica. She also had high praises for the hospitality management programme offered by Hocking College and noted that some of the workers in the local tourism industry had benefited from the programme.
The scholarships are known as the Hocking College and the Most. Hon. Prime Minister of Jamaica Alternative Energy Friendship Scholarship and will cover tuition expenses for up to six semesters beginning with the 2007-8 academic year. Two students each will have access to training in the areas of Alternative Energy and Hospitality Management.
Hocking College was founded in 1968 and is located in the state of Ohio. The details of the scholarships, including application and qualifications, will be released later.
