UDC Gets New Board

Dr. John Cooke has been appointed the new Chairman of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC). This was announced by the Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan, at the weekly post Cabinet press briefing, held yesterday (November 27), at Jamaica House.
Dr. Cooke is also Chairman of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica. Other Board members are: Marjorie Campbell, George Duncan, Roy Hutchinson, Leon Gordon, Sonia Hyman, Carlton Depass, Lambert Brown, Michael Palmer, Donovan Stanbury, Joy Douglas, Easton Douglas, Jahil Dabdoub, Pamella Redwood, Father Burchell McPherson and a staff representative.
The new Board of Directors of the UDC will operate for a period of three years, effective December 1.
Mr. Buchanan also announced that Cabinet has approved the re-appointment of the Board for the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation for another two years, with effect from December 1, 2006.
The Board will be chaired by Gerthlyn Holman. Other members include, Pamela Harrison, Shirley Duncan, Yvonne Coke, Aisha Mulendwe, Deborah Hickling, Princess Lawes, Easton Williams and Pastor Steve Harris.
On another matter, the Minister said that Cabinet has approved a contract for the supply of fire fighters’ protective gear to National Safety Limited, in the amount of $63.61 million.
Mr. Buchanan said that under this agreement, the following protective gear will be purchased – 1,200 suits of jackets and trousers, 900 helmets, 600 pairs of gloves and 1,200 pairs of boots.
