UDC donates jet skis to St. Ann Marine Police

February 16, 2011

The Full Story

St. Ann’s marine police section has received two jet skies from the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) to increase their patrolling capability.

The skis are expected to contribute to the improvement of policing in the resort town of Ocho Rios. They were handed over to the marine police section on Tuesday (February 15) at the UDC Pier, Ocho Rios.

“Today, we have received two watercraft and we are absolutely thankful for both of them, because this will help us to deal with law enforcement issues at sea,” said Commanding Officer of the St. Ann police, Senior Superintendent Carlton Wilson.

He stated that, for some time, the St. Ann police have been having issues with jet skiers peddling drugs and doing other illegal activities in the area. With the additional skis, the police will be able to do much more, he said, noting that officers are already trained to operate the skis, but that additional training was needed to ensure 24 hour-coverage of the area on a daily basis.

“We never always get what we want but, certainly, this will take us a far way in enhancing our capabilities,” SSP Wilson said. He urged the officers to take the best care of the units.
