UDC And Project Educate Donate School Supplies

The Full Story

Several schools located downtown Kingston have received school supplies courtesy of the Urban Development Corporation (UDC).

The institutions also benefitted from textbook donations from Project Educate to enhance their libraries.

Speaking at the handing over at the UDC’s ‘Schools in Extravaganza’ held on November 9 at Orange Park, Kingston Mall,  Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, Hon. Damion Crawford, urged the students to make the best use of the gifts.

“People are putting in an investment. They didn’t have to do it and you must look at that investment as if I gave you $100,000…therefore when you get the book, use the book because it is ten times $100,000. Each one of them can help you make millions,” he said.

Mr. Crawford encouraged the students to focus on their studies and avoid distractions, noting that education is key to upward mobility.  He also commended the sponsors for making the donations possible.

Throughout the day, students also benefitted from educational talks and special displays from several exhibitors.

The outreach activity for schools in downtown Kingston and its environs was aimed at facilitating access to educational resources and services in one convenient location.

The UDC partnered with Project Educate Jamaica, a private sector-led initiative aimed at distributing thousands of books to needy schools.
