Taxpayers have two weeks to file their Income Tax Returns before the March 15 deadline expires. The Tax Administration is therefore reminding all companies, self-employed persons, partners, other bodies and employed persons with additional sources of income to file their Annual Income Tax Return for 2009 and their Declaration of Estimated Income & Tax Payable for 2010 on or before the March 15 due date.
The Tax Administration is offering assistance to small business operators and self-employed individuals to prepare their tax returns, through its Special Taxpayer Service Programmes being held at several locations across the island. Persons are encouraged to take advantage of these sessions, which are being offered free. Details of the programme, which runs until Monday, March 15, are available by contacting the Tax Administration Customer Care Centre at 1-888-TAX-HELP (1-888-829-4357), any tax office or online at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.
Failure to file income tax returns by the March 15 due date is a breach of the Income Tax Act and may lead to the tax authorities issuing an estimated assessment, automatically generated from its computerised system or other enforcement or court action being taken.
