  • Condolence Books were opened on Wednesday, July 23.
  • The State Funeral for Sir Howard will take place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1 George Headley Drive, Kingston on Friday, August 8 commencing at 10:00 a.m.

The Full Story

The nation will observe two days of official mourning, on August 7-8 for the late former Governor General, Sir Howard Cooke.

The Lying-in-State for the public will take place on Tuesday, August 5 at the Cultural Centre, Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay and Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Mico University College, 1A Marescaux Road from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In addition, Condolence Books were opened on Wednesday, July 23, at the following locations:

  • King’s House
  • Office of the Prime Minister Western Region- Mobay
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade
    • The Mico University – The President’s Office
    • People’s National Party Headquarters
    • Hope United Church, 221 Old Hope Road, Kingston 6

 

These Condolence Books will be opened daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The State Funeral for Sir Howard will take place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1 George Headley Drive, Kingston on Friday, August 8 commencing at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the National Heroes Park.

Earlier today a Joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament was convened at which tributes were paid to Sir Howard by the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators.

Sir Howard served as Governor General of Jamaica from 1991-2006.
