The Full Story

The Government will make available $200 million to provide tuition grants to at least 1,000 tertiary students in good academic standing but in need of financial support.

Prime Minister, the Most. Hon. Andrew Holness, made the disclosure in his contribution to the 2024/25 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Thursday (March 21).

Mr. Holness said this support will be administered through the Ministry of Education, in conjunction with the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), where each constituency will be allocated approximately $3 million.

Each beneficiary will be eligible for a maximum tuition grant of $200,000.

“This Administration is serious about giving our students the opportunities to access higher education and skills as we seek to move from a low-wage economy to a high-productivity economy,” Mr. Holness said.

While opening the 2024/25 Budget Debate on March 12, Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, announced that effective April 1, applicants to the Students’ Loan Bureau (SLB) will not require guarantors to access tertiary financing.

Dr. Clarke also announced that low-income SLB applicants will also benefit from 4,200 grants in the sum of $60,000 each.
