Tropical Storm Warning Lifted

August 28, 2006

The Full Story

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has been advised by the Meteorological Service of the discontinuation of the Tropical Storm Warning for Jamaica as Tropical Storm Ernesto moves closer to Cuba and away from Jamaica. On its current track, the centre of the Tropical Storm is projected to make landfall along the southeastern coast of Cuba later this morning.
There is still the potential for spiral bands, associated with the system, to produce periods of showers and thunderstorms over sections of the island today.
In light of this recent development the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) will be downsizing/scaling down operations and will therefore cease twenty-four hour operations/activation. Parish Disaster Emergency Operations Centres (PEOC) will also be scaled down based on the level of activity taking place in the particular parish.
The NEOC will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day.
