A provision of $242 million has been allocated for the Transportation Infrastructure Rehabilitation Programme in the Ministry of Transport and Works, in the 2009/10 Estimates of Expenditure.
The project, which is being financed by the Inter American Development Bank (IDB), aims at undertaking rehabilitation of essential portions of the main road systems, ensuring physical continuity of the primary road network and minimising the impact of flooding on the road system.
Physical targets envisioned under the project include, completing studies and design works and commencing civil works. Under the project, it is expected that, for this fiscal year, the Hope River Bridge’s design works will be completed.
The project which commenced in February 2008 is expected to be completed by March 2010.
