TransJamaican Highway Limited (THL), builders of Highway 2000 East –West, was awarded a certificate of conformity to the ISO: 9001 2008 standard from the National Certification Body of Jamaica (NCBJ) on June 19.

Managing Director of TransJamaican Highway Limited, Guillaume Allain, said an important aspect of the ISO: 9001 2008 certification is that it speaks to ongoing improvement.

“This certification is very important to our company because customer service is very critical in our business. Being able to satisfy our customers’ demands and continuously improving wherever possible, in order to ensure that they are experiencing good service when they use our highways, is something that we are committed to,” he said.

The Managing Director added that the processes in place will be audited on a regular basis by the NCBJ.

Senior Quality and Maintenance Engineer at TransJamaican Highway Limited, Melbourne Lyn-Cook, pointed out that the certificate is valid for the company’s design, construction, operation, maintenance and financing services of Highway 2000 East-West.

“It is a very good feeling for us having received this certification. TransJamaican Highway Limited has previously worked with companies that had this certification and we did not. We are contented that we have finally achieved this certification,” he said.

Also sharing in THL’s success was Lead Auditor, ISO: 9001 2008 standard, Commander Michael Rodriguez, who highlighted that assessing TransJamaican Highway Limited’s conformity, based on requirements of the standard, was a smooth process.

“After assessments, a report was done and submitted to NCBJ for review by the executive committee who then decided if the recommendations by the auditors would be upheld.  However, this audit went to the committee and came back without opposition to our recommendations. This audit report was also confirmed by ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board,” he said.

Meanwhile, Quality Officer at TransJamaican Highway Limited, Kareem Fraser, underscored the decision to utilise the services of the NCBJ.

“We wanted to use a local supplier for certification, because we also try to utilise our local based resources and suppliers for various services. We also found NCBJ to be very professional and capable of executing assessments, as they are certified by ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board,” he said.

He also noted that ISO 9001:2008 certifies the company’s quality management system to international standards that will help it to operate more efficiently and also to improve in every area of the organization, especially the way it serves its customers.
