The Full Story
Effective 5:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, November 13, 2015 changes to traffic movement will be introduced at the Forum Bridge, Port Henderson Road (Back Road) in Portmore St. Catherine. The bridge will be closed for three months to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Manager Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA) Stephen Shaw says traffic will be diverted onto the recently constructed detour road adjacent to the bridge.
Mr. Shaw says that during the morning peak hours between 5: a.m. and 9:00 a.m. there will be one-way directional flow northbound for motorists travelling in the direction of the Toll Plaza. He says that during the evening peak hours, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. one way directional flow will operate southbound.
The NWA Communications Manager says that this temporary closure of the Forum Bridge is to facilitate repairs to the bridge’s superstructure. Operators of heavy duty vehicles will not be allowed to use the detour road.
Motorists are advised to obey the instructions of the Police and the Traffic Signals that are posted at both approaches to the bridge. The project, which commenced in September, is scheduled to be completed in six months.
The NWA is also advising pedestrians to obey all posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons during the rehabilitation works.
