The Full Story

Hundreds of young people from Tourism Action Clubs in schools across the island will participate in a youth forum being held on World Tourism Day (September 27), at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James.

The event is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism and its public bodies as part of activities for Tourism Awareness Week (TAW), September 24 to 30, and is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

The forum presents an opportunity for young people to hear from industry stakeholders while contributing to the dialogue on the future of tourism.

It will include interactive presentations, exhibitions and performances throughout the day.

Among the topics to be discussed are Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology; Building Resilience and Sustainability and Investing in Planet; and Safeguarding Jamaica’s Incredible Biodiversity.

Senior Director, Corporate Communications, Ministry of Tourism, Kingsley Roberts, told JIS News that the youth forum is a returning event from last year’s TAW calendar of events.

“The feedback was overwhelming; the students really liked it… . We expect that type of energy again because the students, in terms of feedback, outlined that they appreciated how the information was distilled and put to them in a way that they could truly understand and appreciate,” said Mr. Roberts.

TAW is being observed under the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) theme for World Tourism Day: ‘Tourism and Green Investments’, which seeks to highlight the need to invest in people, planet and prosperity.
