The Ministry of Tourism has increased its allocation under the Spruce up Jamaica programme from $3 million to $4 million per constituency this financial year, due to the success of the initiative.
Portfolio Minister, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, made the disclosure during his contribution to the 2023/24 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 18.
Through the Spruce Up Jamaica programme, the Ministry funds small but focused community development projects across every constituency.
Mr. Bartlett said for this financial year, work will be undertaken in Negril.
“The good news here is that stakeholders in Negril are participating in this spruce-up programme, because already we have commitment for over $2 million from stakeholders in Negril to add to what we have to put together, to make sure that the programme can start on a good footing early in May this year,” Mr. Bartlett said.
Nearly 300 communities across the island have benefited from the programme.
