Top Customer Service Station in Area 4 to Be Chosen by the Public in PCOA’S TOPS Competition

Members of the public will have a direct role in determining the top customer-service station or division in the Police Civilian Oversight Authority (PCOA) Transforming Our Police Service (TOPS) competition, through the Customer Service Satisfaction Survey.

The survey is intended to capture citizens’ views on their interactions with the police and the quality of service provided across Area 4.

The PCOA is hosting the eighth edition of its flagship initiative, the TOPS Competition. This year, the competition will be held in Area 4, which is comprised of St. Andrew Central, St. Andrew South, Kingston Eastern, Kingston Central and Kingston Western divisions.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the PCOA, Otarah Byfield Nugent, said that the initiative provides an important opportunity for citizens to share their experiences with the police.

“Now, I think this is very important to talk about our Customer Service Satisfaction survey, because this is also another way for the public to get involved in the process and to choose the winner for the Top Customer Service Station or Division,” she continued.

Mrs. Byfield Nugent was speaking at a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) Think Tank on September 10, about the upcoming TOPS competition.

She said the survey will help the PCOA to better understand how citizens view their interactions with the police across Area 4.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to complete the survey through face-to-face engagements with PCOA inspectors in communities as well as online through the Authority’s website.

Mrs. Byfield Nugent is encouraging citizens to participate and share their experiences, noting that the feedback is an important part of the assessment process.

“The general appeal is that the public should participate because it’s a way of getting your voice heard,” she said.

Collectively, there are 31 police stations in Area 4. Inspections for the competition commenced the week of September 7, starting in the Kingston Eastern Division.

Accompanying the PCOA Teams are representatives from the Detention and Courts division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The awards this year include Top Station; Top Prisoners in Custody (PIC) Station; Top Division; People’s Choice Award; PCOA Legacy Award and the Dr. the. Hon. Marshall Hall Award for the station or division showing the most improvement in the TOPS Re-inspection process.
